The Last voyage of the Spray

Book 1

Did the sea claim Joshua Slocum—or did the legendary sailor discover one final horizon?

About the Story

In November 1909, Captain Joshua Slocum set sail from Martha’s Vineyard aboard the Spray—the small vessel that had carried him solo around the world. Neither the celebrated sailor nor his boat was ever seen again.

Weeks later, a lighthouse keeper finds a sealed bottle containing a damaged page from a journal. It recounts an unidentified steamer shadowing the Spray, a disturbed metal box, and an ominous warning about South America.

Thomas Hale, a newspaper reporter and former merchant sailor, refuses to believe Slocum simply made a fatal error. His investigation takes him from the docks of New England to remote Caribbean ports, where he uncovers an old shipwreck, missing documents, and a powerful company determined to keep its secrets buried beneath the waves.

Inspired by the true and unexplained disappearance of Captain Joshua Slocum, The Last Voyage of the Spray blends documented history with an imagined mystery of pursuit, betrayal, and courage.
